final Blog
I am going to make a Prezi for my presentation it is a power point that is very unique of its kind. I will have planned out what I am going to say within my 10 minutes of class. I wont to also challenge my classmates to take on the task of covering a noticeable brand on their clothing and partake in the remainder of their day with it on. Highlight of my text will include the Chevrolet truck text in which we gave identities to our clothing. Also talk about the experience I had covering my brands for a week and problems that were along with that.

I feel like the text that most appropriately connects to my project would be "Fight Club." Im attempting to show the idea that an individual can get away from brand and materiel objects and find themselves. In the book it was the self destruction of oneself. More noteably the idea that people hold to strongly to idea of brands and the fact people outside the world look for those brands on people and base opinions and ideas from them. So what if people base the fact if the like someone from a brand they wear? Well thats the point today society has focused more on appearance then actually getting to know and understand someone. Another text could be do "Can an Engine Pump the Values in Your Heart." This article is that base on appearance if someone doesn't care they the brand doesn't matter and your friends wont mind as well. Someone who gives great joy and love to their clothing are plagued by the idea they need these belongings.

My project is to show the relationship that individuals have come to with their clothing. People have become struck with brands and how they feel they should be viewed in society. The point of asking people would they still by the brand name nike apparel if the signature swoosh no longer existed shows our self confidence as people. I have not yet started yet but the survey's are made and collecting the data is going to be cake. Seeing as I encounter most individuals during dining hours and boxer briefs are posted everywhere on tables that people read simply asking them to check a yes or an no in between stuffing their faces should create a simple random sample.

The two ads raise the question of impossible in todays world truly being a non factor in life. They are to ads from different companies however they both use different and similar techniques. Both ads use an african american role model in life that has accomplished some feet in his life. The top ad by adidas uses a strong worded ad compared to the simple nike ad which everyone with this a glance could tell what the implied meaning was behind it. The ads show both the mean in action against a black background which in the case makes them stand out with article of white clothing on. We can also see from the ad that african americans are defying laws in the world. considering what is also going on in todays society with a man of black ethnicity running the hundred meter in times un heard of, impossible is truly nothing.

The two ads above are both deodorant ads produced by different companies for the same purpose to keep people dry and at the same time keep them smelling fresh. They both however use different techniques to help get their product out and to the right audience.
Old spice the ad on top shows 2 men and a women sitting in sauna relaxing however one of the men has residue left after using his deodorant which is what the ad is geared towards. The look of it makes the girl very suspicious while making the other man close his eyes as the guy has his arms up. This ad differs from the Secret ad as it is for men. The Old spice is also talking about residue as the secret ad is talking about smelling well.
The Secret ad is more colorful then the upper ad making it more girly. It has only a woman on it making it only for women. The Old spice is a darker setting while having a women in it is is centered around the men. The ad implies that women know they should smell good, compared to the mens ad in which men find it okay to have residue because we are men and are allowed to, but at the same time trying to fix it with that deodorant. The Values in the ad are different because of the circumstances. The men are held to standards other then that of women the ads display this.

Berger idea of how people are perceived through images takes us back to early idea of paintings when women were seen as only pieces of meat and to be that implied vanity. Today looking at images we still maintain that same central idea. The calvin Klein model show's example of this. First by the man, he is a a seductive pose but a noticeable difference is present as he is focused on us the viewer instead of looking at something in the image. In Berger's writing he says man are even in paintings surveyors, to mean the are not being looked at for nudity. As compared to the women whom still do not see the viewer in the picture, but are more looking off in which before time the looked through mirrors to see themselves, which leaves them even to this day as being surveyed by others for there body and not for in this case the article of clothing they are wearing. We see the difference in today pictures of women as they are more conscious of their exposure to the world and to an extent come to accept that role as a sex symbol.

Food
I personally think that gender does play a role in what people eat. Going back to media, women see their bodies and what they put in it personal. They feel that it is not acceptable to eat certain foods because it is not feminine. I think men do have a free range to consume what they want. A bigger men is ridiculed less then say so a bigger women do to social expectations in todays world. I think men are prompt to get rammed for eating salads. however this allows conflict to occur as people are sensitive.
We can infer that the beaconador add is targeting men. They have faces on men on every individual in the add, while at the same time have women voices screaming which was ironic. The usual red headed girl is interrupted with a heavier set men while still having the red hair as the original girl. The overall commercial doesn't include women in it which shows how it is for men.
Boco Burger reveals a totally different theme. It shows the average male ideally staring at a women in this case subsituted by a hamburger. Today people look at women as a sex symbol. This ad is still geared towards men getting them to want the burger as they want other things in life. The image is that people are always going after what they believe the world wants them to have back to the media idea of controlling everything.

Blog #6 : Introduction
Society has been through many cases of breakdown and rebuild. The Great Depression caused people to re-look how society was ran and ultimately caused chaos that led to individuals coming into there own personalities to survive thus creating a better world, instead of looking for one someone to be their scapegoat. In Fight Club, by Chuck Palahnuik we see that the individual needs to break away from the social norms to truly reevaluate themselves in order to see their true identity and to understand themselve. I agree with Palahnuik that the world in order to become a greater please needs to be stripped of its condiments to be made into something greater while in doing so forces the individual to do the same. Its necessary for people to start with the simplest form of a object or task in front of them to see the root to understand its entirety as a whole.

The Truman Show
Individuals today tend to accept the reality that is given to them. We fall into a nonchalant style of giving into what is given to use instead of going after what everyone considers norms in the world. However the Truman shows demonstrates an individual played by Jim Carey who is entirely fed up with what seems to be real and begins to question everything that he see's hear's and ultimately at one time believed was his life. It shows the media's control over an individual but shows how its up to the individual to either allow the control to happen or take a stand and fight back. I believe the film is advocating for the fact that we control our lives no matter how much media and out side sources try and persuade us or even tilt us to thinking what they want us to.
I agree with what the film is saying. At first I was somewhat confused with the events happening until I began to zone in. The movie gives to the idea that it is okay to question what we think is our reality and it makes us a better person by it. I enjoyed the movie. the fact someone just as in plato's cave can believe something for so long and have just a slip of there reality altered and then decide to switch to the red pill and fight against everything and everyone in his/her way.
The Truman Show gave its audience just what it needed. It in a twisted way. Showed us a reality within the story that while happening was not at all happening. We choose how we live, although at times we might cede to the media or the outside worlds mind we always have the power to change.
At the end of the movie when Truman is sailing into the water to what he believes he can escape, he fights back. He knowing someone was controlling his life sought to not give up on escaping. when e finally realized he was not in a real world he gives his famous quote line back to the world that controlled him basically giving them a big middle finger. This gives to the argument saying we the individual has power, and no one can take that right from us.
We all in a way are controlled by media it gives us the sense that what we are doing in right. However if we don't question that media we are ceding our power as human beings to be different which in the case of all this the media wants from us. For us to go outside the norms so they can sell it right back to us in consumption. The film is making an outstanding argument that we can do whatever we like in life with just a little pinch to wake our minds back up.

The Alice Hoffman talk was quiet different from my prospective as I viewed it as a professional recording as I wasn't able to attend the event. I did however found it to be quiet a slumber. It was also informative Ms. Hoffman gave us an insight on her life as well as gave us examples on how to in-better our own. I believe you would have enjoyed the lecture being as you take interest into out lives being our teacher. Leading up to the event I had just got back from a 2 hr plane ride from LA in in all honesty none of the football players where happy to attend and we became even more aroused when Ms. Hoffman made a comment about football players. Ms. Hoffman gave us the opportunity to turn her novel into whatever we pictured. It was quiet difficult to understand. Picture this Ms. Johnson, someone giving you the presidency and without any questions or hate towards you told you to run the country. In reality you probably be happy but at same time look at the people with a bewildered look and want more from them help answers ideas. Ms Hoffman left interpretation up to us which was hard to interpret.

COOL
I feel the video projected more along the lines of consumerism. It should how those individuals went out and searched for ways to sell back to the people what we already have in the underground world. They take what is already shown to us and have the own going circle revolve back around.

Youtube is something Ill use to express myself. I get a lot of ideas as well as motivation in my life from stories or motivational speeches I hear on you tube. It shows how much of my self it brought out by viewing the world electronically. This associates me with the future generation leaving my means of seeing to technology.
I look myself in the mirror and I see myself however. I dress how I want and do as I please without worrying what others think. I give into the idea of seeing and object and wanting but that is everyone in todays society.

The world according to television has a true power over us in the the article as well as reality. Age to me has the most influence on television to how we think of someone. We see the expanding elderly class as helpless individual that are always running on about this or that. Youth see the elderly as a class that has no effect on which is really wrong. They set the foundation as to what we become later in life supporting us through out parents and even some raising us. Television is the humans main source for receiving information in today's society. When something is played in this alternate reality we tend to grab ahold of it and use that as our norms going back to red pill blue pill. We use television in a reverse order as the red pill wanting to learn more in which we go deeper into what is being played. I agree with Mr. Walter's being that he see's you don't see the strength of the elderly. They teach us a lot in real life and are providers as well as advice givers. He feels the youth in the world are most susceptible to going with the norms of television which I agree with being of the youth television has a profound influence on me.
The cult Kalle Lasn says we all belong to our own equity. Yes we are all our own individuals self and we see our life fit how we want to. Cults help us escape from whats actually happening create a bliss of reality in which we accept but find ourselves still searching for something and knowing everything isn't okay. Television is this cult. It recruits us without even knowing it and puts us into a category as we change our appearance or the way we speak and other characteristics of our daily lives. We perceive our world as a high class materialistic individuals whom are not satisfied with the standards and the means of living that we ever stand in.

Matrix
I'd rather in any situation learn the truth, whether it hurt me or not. Being oblivious to situation that you are not happy with is living life as a lie. As in the short clip from the Matrix I would take the red pill. In life you must experience to help your knowledge of life expand. Going into the rabbit hole deeper while at the same time not knowing what it beholds is a new. People today are terrified in many instances and allow to just past by life without question the morns or situations they feel aren't right. Neo challenges these norms.
Plato's cave relates relatively close to the matrix. In Plato's story the cave is like the matrix because it appears different to each individual. Being tied down and only being able to see what is in front of you. Plato describes how a person enter's into light and a first cannot see what is exactly is in front of them but more along the lines of adapting as time passes to see. Put someone in the dark and after a month or two they will adjust to those settings. We are all imprisoned to the world. We have ideas of how we see things and everyone doesn't agree with that vision, some people choose the red pill instead of the blue pill. Everyone who takes the blue pill is only deeper imprisoning themselves to lie's and scandals that the world dishes out.
The movie shows Neo that what the world is actually showing him is a lie. Plato's cave does this to the individual in the same manner giving light through it but also dark more along the lines of tricking the mind to believing not what is actually being shown but the mask over it. Neo chooses to see the world as it is and Morphous does that for him in the clip.
